Music is like a magical charm that soothes your soul, stirs your spirit, enriches your mind and evokes a symphony of emotions.
What musician can't remember the thrill of playing a complete song for the first time? What choir can't reminisce about the roar of applause after a stunning performance? What soloist can't recall the tremendous satisfaction of transforming thoughts into lyrics and tunes? These are unforgettable stirring moments the Foundation wants to nurture and encourage.
Music brings more value than its sheer joy. Research shows that children exposed to music tend to enjoy greater success in school and society. They tend to score better on standardized tests, win more academic awards, and experience greater intellectual development. They are also less likely to smoke, use drugs, or drink alcohol.
Unfortunately, in recent years, Michigan's public schools have frequently targeted music education for cutbacks because of the state's budget crisis. The reductions are particularly difficult for financially disadvantaged youth who often have no other means to continue music education. Why not present them with a positive alternative that will offer them a chance at acquiring a lifelong skill as a musician and an appreciation for a universal language?
Mission
